This qualification reflects the role of individuals who manage a retail business, multiple retail stores or departments, following a business strategy to deliver profitable results for the organisation. These individuals support senior management and provide leadership to retail teams. They plan and evaluate the work of self and others, operating with autonomy and responsibility for personal outputs.

Core Units

Undertake strategic planning in retail (SIRRSTR001)
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to analyse the operating environment and use results to develop, implement and review a retail strategy. This unit applies to senior personnel working in a diverse range of sectors and business contexts. They operate independently and are responsible for making a range of operational business decisions and strategic planning.

Lead the change process (SIRXCHA002)
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify, plan for and evaluate organisational change.

Provide leadership to others (SIRXMGT003)
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to lead others to deliver the organisational vision through the development of performance plans and demonstration of leadership behaviours.

Drive retail profitability (SIRRRTF003)
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to interpret financial information for a retail business, and to identify, promote and implement strategies to positively impact the business financials.

Elective Units

Manage recruitment selection and induction processes (BSBHRM506)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage all aspects of recruitment selection and induction processes in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.

Manage employee relations (BSBHRM604)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge to develop and maintain a positive and productive workplace environment. It covers all aspects of employee relations impacting on managers at the strategic level.

Develop and use emotional intelligence (BSBLDR501)
This unit covers the development and use of emotional intelligence to increase self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management in the context of the workplace. It includes identifying the impact of own emotions on others in the workplace, recognising and appreciating the emotional strengths and weaknesses of others, promoting the development of emotional intelligence in others and utilising emotional intelligence to maximise team outcomes.

Lead and manage effective workplace relationships (BSBLDR502)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to lead and manage effective workplace relationships. It applies to individuals in leadership or management who have a prominent role in establishing and managing processes and procedures to support workplace relationships taking into account the organisation’s values, goals and cultural diversity.

Undertake digital marketing activities (SIRXMKT004)
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to follow a digital marketing plan to undertake and review online marketing activities.

Develop a marketing strategy (SIRXMKT005)
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to analyse the operating environment and use results to develop, implement and review a marketing strategy.

Drive sales results (SIRXRSK003)
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop and implement a plan to drive sales results in a retail marketplace.

Develop a workplace learning environment (BSBLED501)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to encourage and support the development of a learning environment in which work and learning come together. Particular emphasis is on the development of strategies to facilitate and promote learning and to monitor and improve learning performance.

Ensure a safe workplace (BSBWHS501)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish, maintain and evaluate the organisation’s work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and programs in the relevant work area, according to WHS legislative requirements. It takes a systems approach and addresses compliance with relevant legislative requirements.
