This qualification reflects the role of individuals working as developing and emerging leaders and managers in a range of enterprise and industry contexts. As well as assuming responsibility for their own performance, individuals at this level provide leadership, guidance and support to others. They also have some responsibility for organising and monitoring the output of their team.
Requires 12 units for the qualification, 4 core plus 8 electives

CORE UNITS:

Communicate effectively as a workplace leader (BSBLDR401 – 40 nom hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively as a workplace leader, including understanding the context, choosing methods of communication to suit the audience, and following up. This unit applies to managers, supervisors and team leaders required to communicate with other persons within the workplace.

Lead effective workplace relationships (BSBLDR402 – 50 nom hours)
This unit defines skills, knowledge and outcomes required to use leadership to promote team cohesion. It includes motivating, mentoring, coaching and developing the team and forming the bridge between the management of the organisation and team members. This unit applies to team leaders, supervisors and new or emerging managers where leadership plays a role in developing and maintaining effective workplace relationships. It applies in any industry or community context.

Lead team effectiveness (BSBLDR403 – 50 nom hours)
This unit defines skills, knowledge and outcomes required to plan and supervise the performance of the team and develop team cohesion. It applies team leaders, supervisors and new emerging managers who have an important leadership role in the development of efficient and effective work teams.

Implement operational plan (BSBMGT402 – 40 nom hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to implement the operational plan by monitoring and adjusting operational performance, planning and acquiring resources and providing reports on performance as required.

Report on financial activity (BSBFIA412 – 30 nom hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare financial reports in line with statutory reporting requirements. It encompasses compiling and analysing data.

Promote innovation in a team environment (BSBINN301 – 40 nom hours)
This qualification reflects the role of individuals working as developing and emerging leaders and managers in a range of enterprise and industry contexts.

Lead a diverse workforce (BSBLDR404 – 50 nom hours)
This unit identifies the behaviours, skills and knowledge required to lead a diverse workforce. It covers identifying, analysing and engaging with a diverse workforce to maximise the benefit of diversity to the organisation.

Implement continuous improvement (BSBMGT403 – 40 nom hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to implement the organisation’s continuous improvement systems and processes. It covers using systems and strategies to actively encourage the team to participate in the process, monitoring and reviewing performance, and identifying opportunities for further improvements.

Identify risk and apply risk management processes (BSBRSK401 – 50 nom hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify risks and to apply established risk management processes to a defined area of operations that are within the responsibilities and obligations of the role.

Implement and monitor WHS policies, procedures and programs to meet legislative requirements (BSBWHS401 – 50 nom hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to implement and monitor an organisation’s work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and programs in the relevant work area in order to meet legislative requirements.

Develop work priorities (BSBWOR404 – 40 nom hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to monitor and obtain feedback on own work performance and access learning opportunities for professional development.

Mentor in the workplace (TAEDEL404 – 30 nom hours)
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to establish and develop a professional mentoring relationship with a learner, in particular an apprentice or trainee employed by, or undertaking work placement in, a workplace. It includes establishing the need for mentoring, developing a mentoring plan/framework, facilitating and monitoring the mentoring relationship, and evaluating the effectiveness of mentoring.

Coordinate business resources (BSBADM409 – 30 nom hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to determine and analyse existing and required resources, their effective application and the accountability for their use.

Make a presentation (BSBCMM401 – 30 nom hours)
This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to prepare, deliver and review a presentation to a target audience.

Coordinate implementation of customer service strategies (BSBCUS401 – 40 nom hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to advise, carry out and evaluate customer service strategies.

Use and respect copyright (BSBIPR401 – 50 nom hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use and respect copyright. It covers maintaining control over the copyright owner’s work, commercialising copyright material, preventing the unauthorised use of an original work and using other party’s original work legitimately.

Develop teams and individuals (BSBLED401 – 40 nom hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to determine individual and team development needs and to facilitate the development of the workgroup.

Show leadership in the workplace (BSBMGT401 – 50 nom hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to lead teams and individuals by modelling high standards of conduct to reflect the organisation’s standards and values.

Undertake project work (BSBPMG522 – 60 nom hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake a straightforward project or a section of a larger project. It covers developing a project plan, administering and monitoring the project, finalising the project and reviewing the project to identify lessons learned for application to future projects.

Analyse and present research information (BSBRES401- 40 nom hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to gather, organise, analyse and present workplace information using available systems. This includes identifying research requirements and sources of information, applying information to a set of facts, evaluating the quality of the information, and preparing and producing reports.

Implement and monitor environmentally sustainable work practices (BSBSUS401 – 40 nom hours)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to effectively analyse the workplace in relation to environmentally sustainable work practices and to implement improvements and monitor their effectiveness.
